RAW

Transitioning to raw

Switching your dog to a raw diet is simple. We suggest making the change in one clear step rather than gradually. A direct swap works best, as combining raw food with kibble or canned diets can increase the risk of digestive discomfort.

Begin by serving your dog their final meal of the current diet in the evening. The next morning, start feeding raw and continue with your usual feeding schedule.

For the first couple of weeks, it’s best to stick to just two different protein sources per week. This allows your dog’s digestive system to adjust and makes it easier to spot and remove any ingredients that might cause sensitivity or allergic reactions.

Once your dog has settled into raw feeding, variety becomes key. Aim to rotate at least five different proteins each week, or more if possible. A diverse menu helps ensure balanced nutrition, keeps meals interesting, and reduces the risk of food boredom or developing allergies from repeatedly eating the same protein.

How much does my dog need?

No two dogs are exactly alike, which means their diet should be adapted to suit their individual needs. One of the advantages of raw feeding is how flexible it is. You can easily increase or reduce the recommended feeding amount depending on what works best for your dog.

When working out how much to feed, take your dog’s daily activity level into account. Dogs that are highly active or working throughout the day use far more energy than companion dogs and therefore need a higher proportion of food. Age, breed, and environmental factors such as seasonal changes can also influence feeding requirements. It’s also important to consider the protein you’re feeding, as fat levels vary between meats

Adult dogs should generally be fed around 2 - 3 percent of their ideal body weight each day. For dogs under 16 months of age, refer to the guide below for appropriate amounts.

If your dog needs to gain or lose weight, base feeding amounts on their target weight instead. Feeding 2 to 3 percent of that goal weight, and adjusting portions as needed, allows you to manage their weight safely and effectively over time.
